Within the last 12 months I attended a Brisbane Liver Specialist for an appointmnent. This person shall rename namesless forevef and never be released. This what happenned:
Prior to appointment: -
1) I sent a list of questions by email.
2) I sent access codes to previous scans by email
3) I sent my recent blood tests.
At the appointment -
1) Some live scans were sighted on a computer screen.
2) Printed report of most recent Radiologist report was provided to be placed on the desk plus extract of images for perusal by the doctor.
3) The Liver Specialist provided me with information -
A discussion of abnormal items on the Radiologist report.
A discussion of my now disappeared but previousl recanalised Paraumbilical vein which went from Recanalised to not Recanalised. Now Disappeared Portosystemic varices. Now Disappeared Collaterals.
A discussion of Liver Surface and Heterogenous/Homogenous/Echogenicity.
A discussion of two abnormal blood results.
A discussion of organ sizes and the different way that Radiologists measure one particular organ, eg Longitudional (length) measurement or the width ( Medio - lateral) . This is important for when you look at the images yourself, in order to cut down future discussions with the Liver Specialist. Guss what ? Radiologists don't tell you exactly what way they measure but you can see it on the scan image.
A discussion of some tips for Nutrition
A discussion of some tips for Exercise.
Some "probable" diagnoses. I regard this as fantastic information, whether it's good news or bad news. I will not hold anyone liable for having a crack, as we say, in Australia. This is 100% encouraged by myself. There are not many certainties in the Liver business.
I can't tell you everything since there is no point. The point is this is an example of how a good Liver Specialist operates.
My late Oral Maxilofacial surgeon father (40 years at the Mater Hospital) used to say "That bad tooth of yours has a 90% chance of lasting another 10 years and a 10% chance of failing. What do you want me to do? Nothing or take it out? That's up to you, Mr patient."
After the appointment
My Liver Specialist sent mt GP a very confidential and very genuine letter.
10 out of 10 in my view.
